I’m a total nerd for branding.
I love seeing how one idea can be carried out in so many different mediums.

I came across the branding for a new restaurant that features fast-fresh & organic street food. Those words sound strange together, don’t they? Well, that’s where they came up with the concept & name for Unforked. The goal of unforked is to change what people think about food, showing it can be healthy & high quality without compromising price.

Food politics aside, the design & copywriting for this restaurant is playful, clever but most of all—simple!

It was done by Design Ranch, who I couldn’t help but fall in love with just from the loading page. Visit for yourself.

Arrange, Rearrange

My love of things neatly arranged is brought to new levels by the artist Giuseppe Randazzo.

His work titled “Stone Fields” is a series of algorithmic works. He uses algorithms to create the structure of the stones and to sort them by size according to an underlying pattern. Some of my favorites are below:

Maricor Maricar

Maricor Maricar describes themselves as Designers, Illustrators, animators & makers of things assorted.

I would describe them as unlike any collective I’ve ever seen before.
I’ve spent over an hour looking at all of their work, but my jaw dropped at the embroidered typography. Some examples are below.

Klip Collective

For the holidays I went back to my hometown of Philadelphia. While there I had the pleasure of attending the Klip holiday party. Klip is a full service agency that specializes in creative ways of using new technology. They also happen to be great friends of mine!!!

It blows my mind to see all the interesting work they’ve done over the years & just how much they have grown. Below are some screen shots of projections they did for an MSNBC campaign. Projects were put up all over New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Denver, Atlanta and rural New Jersey for the duration of 10 days.

They have so many fantastic projects to view, but I of course chose this one because of all the typography. Check out more here. Also, don’t think I didn’t notice (and love) that the logo itself gets clipped off. Perfection.

My instagram obsession

Something that always relaxes me is collecting beautiful little pieces of nature & neatly arranging them.

Something about it always makes me happy. Perhaps it’s the small intricacies of the object itself before i even touch it. Below are some of my new favorite photos. As always, inspired by love.

Another brilliant talent from philadelphia

I’m currently staring & loving everything in miss Danielle Kroll’s portfolio.

The woman is not only talented at typography & design, but her illustrations are simplistic, retro & modern all at once. Of course, Anthropologie scooped her up!

Below are just some of my favorites.

Get off the computer! Part 1

Many people have told me that I seem to comment on everything, so it seemed perfectly within the scope of my personality when I started naming plants on the walks of our silverlake neighborhood.

I started a personal goal to be able to name at least 5 plants on every walk, and during one of these little wanderings, a friend of mine mentioned that I should think about making little plaques for the plants like they do at a botanical garden. Amazing idea! Combining hand drawn typography & wood burning, I did a few of my favorite plants around los angeles & hid them hoping for someone who is as interested in the plants as I to find them!

Dreamy Photography

I am a lover of the past.
My mother always told me I was born in the wrong time.

EllenRogers is very much a spirit of the past. Her photography brings forth memories of my alternative photography class in college where we worked with the large format camera, made cyanotypes & referenced julia margaret cameron every other day. Hey! It’s an all women’s college! I am both impressed & thrilled that she uses a wet plate technique. I love a lady that brings history back into the trends of today.

The Infinite Potential of Every Single Little Bit

Back when I lived in Philadelphia, a close friend of mine paid a visit to Canada. For months following her trip, every book, movie, cup of coffee & song reminded her of this visit. We would hear detailed stories of all the adventures she had experienced & what divine food, art & people reside there. She had visited Canada for 1 weekend.

I bring this up because this past summer I visited Oregon, and have blithely found traces of my visit materalize just when I feel I need them the most. I often laugh to myself because almost I can hear “When I was in Canada…” everytime I tell an Oregon Story.

However, I really did see so many beautiful things in  Oregon! It was magnificent!

Rachel and I stumbled into land gallery while walking around Portland, entranced by the signage out front and were greeting with jill bliss stationery (among others) on the lower level, and an art gallery on the top.

The art gallery was bright, and quiet. Laying on the pedestals were vintage books that had been painted. I fell in love with them. Today while looking through some design blogs, I stumbled upon this artist again and was thrilled to have remembered seeing these books in person. They are designed and painted by Frank Chimero who actually lives in *swoon* Portland, Oregon.

Seeing them again makes me grin. He has such a talent for typography and pairs it with a tremendous amount of wit. Aren’t they fantastic?

My heart stopped

Okay, My title is a bit dramatic, but have you seen Dana Tanamachi‘s work?

I stumbled upon Dana Tanamachi the other day while researching handwritten typography. How beautiful is this piece she created for someone’s wedding?!

danatanamachi
There are a few things visually that draw me to dana’s work. One being how rigid and perfect she is with some letterforms while still maintaining the ability to be carefree with others. The other thing that resonates with me is that she doesn’t completely wipe her grid marks away. If you look closely, you can see some outlines of letters before they were born flawless.

Aside from all visual statements, I really enjoy that she works with an temporary medium such as chalk. But…it will just wash away!! It won’t last! Ah, but the pictures will.
